Bangladesh ambassador to Kuwait Major Gen Md. Ashikuzaman paid a courtesy call with FBCC president Jashim Uddin at FBCCI Icon on Thursday.
At the meeting, they discussed on the issues related to trade and investment between Bangladesh and Kuwait. ICT, Skill development, Plastic, Pharmaceutical, RMG sector, Light Engineering, Fish & Vegetables, Fresh Fruits, Processing food, Manpower were highlighted as the potential products for export to Kuwait market, said a press release.
The Ambassador said there is lack of interaction between the business community of Bangladesh and Kuwait. More government level and private sector engagement is needed to collaborate with each other on matters of mutual interest and facilitating beneficial partnerships.
FBCCI President also apprised the Ambassador of the apex trade body’s economic and social measures amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Md. Jashim Uddin said there are large numbers of Bangladeshi restaurants in the Middle East including Kuwait. If we can supply spices, raw food items, tea, fruits and vegetables targeting those restaurants, this will contribute remarkably to attain a strong presence in the Middle East market.
He added that we have to work in coordination with Commerce Ministry, Foreign Ministry and other stakeholders in a focused manner to identify potential sectors for export from Bangladesh to Kuwait and other countries to promote country branding and facilitate export diversification which is vital in the post LDC graduation period.
FBCCI President further said the government and business community also need to work together towards quality assurance in the value chain to create a strong foothold in Kuwait and other Middle East markets. He said there are large numbers of Bangladeshi restaurants in the Middle East. FBCCI will arrange business matchmaking meetings, seminars and other needful to assist in need based capacity building and promote quality products to the international market.
