In the first 11 days of August, the second month of the current fiscal year 2023-24, expatriate Bangladeshis have legally remitted 69.49 crore 50 thousand US dollars. In Bangladeshi taka (one dollar is equal to 109 taka), its amount is Tk. 7 thousand 574 crore 41 lakh.
This information is learnt from the updated report of the central bank on Sunday (August 13).
According to the information of the central bank, if the current trend continues, the remittances will reach 196 crore dollars at the end of the month.
In the first 11 days of this month, remittances through state-owned banks reached 8 crore 10 lakh 80 thousand dollars. 59 crore 74 lakh 40 thousand dollars came through private banks. 1 crore 38 lakh 80 thousand dollars came through one of the two specialized banks (Krishi Bank). And 25 lakh 50 thousand dollars came through foreign banks.
No remittances came through 9 banks in the first 11 days of August. The banks are - State-owned Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL), Private Rajshahi Agricultural Development Bank (Rakab), Community Bank, Citizens Bank, ICB Islami Bank, Foreign Habib Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, State Bank of India and Uri Bank.
Earlier, in the first month of the fiscal year 2023-24, July, remittances came in at 197 crore 31 lakh 50,000 US dollars.
