Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali has said that businessmen, who respect the law in revenue making, will get incentives while strict actions will be taken against dishonest traders.
He said this at a function organized on the occasion of International Customs Day-2024 at the revenue building in Agargaon in the capital on Friday (January 26th).
The Finance Minister said the economic progress of Bangladesh is now recognized by the whole world. However, our Tax-GDP ratio is still not at a satisfactory level.
"I hope the National Board of Revenue will try to increase the tax-GDP ratio."
Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali said, one of the main tasks of customs is to facilitate trade. In continuation of Smart Bangladesh declared by the Prime Minister, customs will be developed as truly smart. Calling for reducing the cost of import and export, he said that full automation should be focused.
Mentioning that preventing money laundering is one of the responsibilities of the Customs, the Finance Minister said, it is very important to increase the capacity of the customs to fulfill this responsibility.
I hope customs will pay special attention to this aspect.
Seventeen officers, employees, and three organizations of NBR and its affiliated offices were awarded with the 'Certificate of Merit' of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Finance Secretary Dr Khairuzzaman Majumder, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam, NBR Chairman Abu Hena Rahmatul Munim, and Incepta Group Chairman Abdul Muktadir, among others, were present on the occasion.
