Prime Minister's Adviser on Private Industries and Investments Salman F Rahman said that the bill of the Chinese contractor for the Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) in Dhaka's Savar Leather Industrial City has been blocked.
On Wednesday (March 6) afternoon, he said this while visiting BCIC Leather Industry City located in Hemayetpur of Savar.
Salman F Rahman said, the biggest problem is that CETP is done by Chinese contractors. But they did not work according to the agreement, so their bill was withheld. CETP also could not function properly as they did not work according to the contract. Today we have heard different ideas on how to solve the problem of CETP. There have been many discussions, but no decision has been made.
He also said, 'The MD of the company has given some suggestions regarding what steps can be taken before the sacrifice with this ETP. There are some good suggestions, if they are implemented, the problems that occur during Eid-ul- Azha will be solved to some extent. I have also heard from the owners, if they do not get certification from the Ministry of Environment, they are also unable to do business. Here the Honorable Minister of Environment has agreed so much; he will relax the criteria for some time and give certificates to the traders. After the Eid-ul-Azha, the certificates will be canceled if they do not meet the standards of the Ministry of Environment.
Already one factory has got an LWG certificate. If any owner wants to do ETP in his factory there is no objection. Salman F. Rahman said that there were obstacles in this regard earlier.
Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Forest and Climate Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury along with BCIC Chairman and other officials were present.
