Fuel oil is being sold at the new price set by the government. A few petrol pumps were seen in the capital's Mirpur on Thursday (March 7) night, selling diesel, petrol and octane at the new fixed prices.

Earlier, the government issued a notification to reduce the price of fuel oil in the afternoon. Diesel and kerosene have been reduced by 75 paisa from Tk. 109 to Taka 108.25 paisa. Petrol has been reduced by Tk. 3 from Tk. 125 to Tk. 122 and octane has been reduced by Tk. 4 from Tk. 130 to Tk. 126.

While talking to bus driver Hossain Mia at the SAM filling station opposite Sony Cinema Hall. He said, we are happy with the news of reduction in fuel oil prices. Earlier, Octane was reduced from Tk. 135 to Tk. 130. Now it has been reduced by Tk. 4 to Tk. 126. He thinks that this will reduce the pressure on the common people to some extent.

Haseeb, a motorcyclist, said that he was happy to reduce the price of oil. A few days left for Ramadan. He hopes that the decision to reduce the price at such a time will reduce the cost of transportation of goods to some extent. And if the cost of transportation is reduced, the price of goods will also be reduced.

SAM filling station manager Amjad Hossain said, I saw in various newspapers in the morning that the price will be reduced by Tk. 15. But in the afternoon I saw that the price of diesel has decreased by 75 paisa, petrol by Tk. 3 and octane by Tk. 4.

He believes that the fall in oil prices will not reduce the prices of daily necessities. This will give some benefit to the bus owners. Nothing else. However, if the liter was reduced by Tk. 10 to Tk. 15, it would have some effect in the market.

Fuel prices were adjusted last on August 30, 2022. On that day, diesel and kerosene were reduced from Tk. 114 to Tk. 109, petrol was reduced from Tk. 130 to Tk. 125, octane was reduced from Tk. 135 to Tk. 130.

And unprecedented price increase on the night of August 5, 2022. The order issued by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) increased the price of diesel and kerosene by Tk. 34 per liter and petrol and octane by Tk. 46 per litre. Then the price of diesel and kerosene was fixed at Tk. 114 per litre, petrol at Tk. 130 and octane at Tk. 135.

Public transport fares rose by a maximum of 22 percent following the price hike. Before that, in November 2021, the price of diesel and kerosene was increased from Tk. 65 to Tk. 80 per liter. At that time also the transport fare was increased by about 27 percent.
