Condition of Soumitra Chattarjee deteriorates

Dhaka: Celebrated actor of Bengali filmdom Soumitra Chatterjee's physical condition has further deteriorated. Corona infected legendary actor’s old prostate cancer has spread to his lungs and brain.

On Monday (October 12), hospital sources said he also had an infection in his bladder. As a result, new fears have been created about Soumitra's physical condition.

Soumitra is undergoing treatment at Bellevue Nursing Home in central Kolkata after contracting Covid-19.

Soumitra Chatterjee, who has been suffering from corona, was admitted to the nursing home last Tuesday. After that, his physical condition started deteriorating from last Friday. However, Soumitra's condition improved after the second plasma therapy. Although hospital authorities said, his instability has increased.

The veteran actor is undergoing treatment to recover. The state government has also appointed two government specialist doctors here. A 16-member medical team has been formed for Soumitra's treatment.

Soumitra Chatterjee has joined the film shooting a few days ago in the Corona situation. He has completed the shooting of the movie 'Abhiyan' about his life directed by Parambrata Chatterjee. Yeshu Sengupta has played the role of young Soumitra in the film. Soumitra himself played the older character.

He also recently appeared on the stage of a music reality show as a special guest telecast from popular Star Jalsha channel.

Soumitra Chatterjee was born on 19 January 1935 in Mirzapur, Calcutta.  He studied literature at Amherst Street City College, Calcutta University.

Soumitra Chatterjee entered the world of acting in 1959 with Oscar-winning director Satyajit Ray's 'Apur Sansar'. Since then, he has acted in 14 of Ray's 34 movies. He later worked with popular directors like Mrinal Sen, Tapan Singh, Ajay Kar.

Among the movies starring Soumitra Chatterjee are 'Kshudhit Pashan', 'Devi', 'Swaralipi', 'Samapti, Tinkanya', 'Agun', 'Benarasi', 'Abhiyan', 'Shesh Prahor', 'Charulata', 'Baksho Badal', ' ‘Kapurush ', 'Kanch Kata hire',' Belasheshe ',' Praktan ' are notable.

Not just movies, he also acted in numerous dramas, journeys and TV serials. Apart from acting, he has written plays and poems. He has also done the work of direction of films.

 

Soumitra Chatterjee was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2012 by the Government of India. He also received the Legion of Honor from the French government in 2017. In the same year, he received the 'Bangabibhushan' award from the Government of West Bengal. However, in 2013, he refused the same award.
