The World Health Organization (WHO) said an anti-dote vaccine for coronavirus may be available by the end of this year.

On Tuesday (October 6), the organization's Director General, Tedros Adhanam Gabriasus, announced the possibility. But he called on leaders to strengthen solidarity and political commitment to ensure equal vaccine distribution, Reuters reported.

"We need a vaccine to prevent coronavirus and hopefully we will get one by the end of this year," said WHO’s DG.

"We need political commitment from world leaders for the materials we need to prevent coronavirus, including vaccines, especially for the distribution of vaccines," he said.

The COVAX Global Vaccine Facility has been formed under the leadership of WHO with a target of distributing 200 crore doses of vaccine by 2021. This facility includes nine experimental coronavirus vaccines. So far 18 countries have joined the facility. However, the United States, Russia or China are not among them. The Trump administration said it wants to rely on bilateral agreements with manufacturers to ensure vaccine availability.
