World leaders have condemned the attack on the US Parliament building(Capitol Hill) by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump.
World leaders have called for a peaceful and orderly change of power, saying what happened was horrific and an attack on democracy.
Thousands of Trump supporters, including members of various extremist groups, gathered in Washington on Wednesday (January 6) to oppose the congressional hearing. Speaking at the rally, Trump announced that he would not accept defeat of the November election. Shortly afterwards, hundreds of Trump supporters broke through security barricades at the parliament building and clashed with police. At one stage, they broke through the police barricade and entered the Capitol Hill building during the Congress session.
It has suspended President-elect Joe Biden's victory approval.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has condemned the attack on the Parliament House and said that the United States has played a leading role in establishing democracy around the world. So he thinks it is important to hand over power peacefully and in an orderly manner.
Other UK politicians have criticized the violence, saying it was a direct attack on democracy.
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted that the scenes in Washington were absolutely horrific.
"I have confidence in the strength of American democracy," said Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. New President Joe Bowden will overcome this exciting moment by uniting the American people.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has called the attack on the US Parliament building a deadly attack on democracy. I strongly condemn it.
European Parliament President David Sassoli described the violent scene as "deeply disturbing".
The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said he was monitoring the situation every minute, "I think American democratic institutions are strong, and hopefully everything will be back to normal soon."
"We are shocked by the situation in the United States," Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champe wrote on Twitter.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has called on everyone to show respect for the constitution.
Biden, meanwhile, received 306 votes, up from Trump's 232, in the decisive electoral vote for the US presidential election. After that, Trump failed to go to court alleging election fraud in different states of the country.
