Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been expelled from his party, the Communist Party, for allegedly violating discipline.
Oli was ousted by the ruling party on Sunday (January 24) amid political unrest over the dissolution of the lower house of parliament, Indian media NDTV reported.
The party's spokesperson Narayan Kazi Shrestha confirmed the truth and said that Oli's membership was canceled at the party's central committee meeting.
Opposition to Communists called for the beleaguered PM to resign. They also threatened to expel Oli from the team.
Kazi Shrestha said, "We have endured a lot, he did not respond to our call." He has been expelled by the executive power of the party.
Complaining about Oli, the Communist Party leaders said that Oli wanted to usurp power. As per the agreement, the NCP did not want to hand over power to another faction, former Nepali Maoist party leader Prachanda. As a result, differences within the Nepali Communist Party intensified. In the midst of this opposition, ousted Oli used his power to dissolve parliament. Under his pressure, President Vidyadevi Bhandari dissolved the parliament.
"We have expelled Oli from the post of party chairman," said Madhav Kumar Nepal, one of the leaders of the anti-Oli faction in the NCP. Policy action will be taken against him because Oli is no longer eligible to be a member of the Communist Party. He must be held accountable.
