The UN Human Rights Council has adopted a resolution against the usurper military government in Myanmar including the repatriation of Rohingya. Although the proposal was adopted unanimously, China and Russia did not join it.
The Qatar-based media Al-Jarira reported this information on Friday (February 12).
The top UN human rights body has also called on Myanmar to release Aung San Suu Kyi and other officials and end violence against people protesting against the military coup.
The 47-member Geneva Forum adopted the resolution brought by Britain and the European Union (EU).
The ambassador of Myanmar said before the vote that the proposal was "unacceptable."
The resolution was adopted after Britain and the European Union called on the UN Human Rights Council to impose a punitive arms embargo and travel ban on Myanmar in response to the coup.
The United States imposed sanctions on Myanmar's military coup last Thursday (February 11). The United States has called on other members of the Human Rights Council to follow suit.
Thomas Andrews, the UN special envoy to Myanmar, said there were growing reports and photographic evidence that the Myanmar army had been using weapons against protesters since taking power about two weeks ago.
He called on the council to take legal action at the International Criminal Court, including a ban on arms and a travel ban.
Earlier, some 300 Myanmar lawmakers called for a UN inquiry into allegations of "serious human rights abuses" in the wake of the military coup. The arrow of accusation has been fired at the military.
