Myanmar is getting hotter day by day. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Sunday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. At least 18 people were killed in the firing by government forces that day. This is the highest death toll in a single day since the coup.
Police and military forces clashed with peaceful protesters in various parts of the country on Sunday (February 28), the UN Office for Human Rights said. At least 18 people were killed and at least 30 were injured at different places.
The country's main city, Yangon, police fired on the demonstrators. Stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd after the failure of the police having fired directly.
The casualties occurred in Yangon, Dawei and Mandalay. Military forces joined the police to quell the protests.
A man was shot in the chest near the Hildan Center intersection in Yangon, Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported, citing local media.
An eyewitness told Frontier Magazine that police opened fire on the refugees at a bus station, killing one. Others were injured.
Amy Kiao is one of the activists, a teacher by profession, said police opened fire on protesters during the protest, without warning.
