The coronavirus pandemic is not over yet. Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that countries that are in a hurry to relax restrictions will have to pay a high price.

Mike Ryan, Executive Director of the WHO's Health Emergency Program, issued the warning at a news conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday (July 5).

He said that the number of corona patients is increasing all over the world. Yet more than ten lakh patients are being identified every day in the countries of the Americas. Five lakh are being identified in Europe every day. The scourge of this virus is not over yet.

Last week, the WHO's director for Africa warned that the rate at which coronavirus outbreaks have begun across the continent was unprecedented.

In that briefing last Thursday, WHO's Africa chief Dr. Matsidiso Moeti said the number of corona disease cases is tripling every three weeks. But it took four weeks for the second wave of corona to triple.

A report by Qatar-based Al-Jazeera media said that daily deaths in Russia's corona set a new record on Tuesday. At least 737 people were reported killed there that day. The number of patients identified daily in the country has more than doubled compared to last month. Last June, about 9,000 people in Russia were diagnosed with corona daily, but this week it has exceeded 23,000.

The WHO issued the new warning amid the alarming spread of the Delta variant caught in India. Corona's highly contagious delta variant has already spread to more than 100 countries.

Experts said that in order to prevent the spread of this highly contagious form, 80 percent of the people in the country must be vaccinated against coronavirus in addition to complying with the Covid restrictions. But the pace of vaccination programs has slowed down due to the global vaccination crisis.
