Modi reshuffles cabinet at the behest of Covid?

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made major changes in his cabinet to address the dire situation of the coronavirus.

On Wednesday (July 7) evening, 43 ministers were sworn in at the Rastrapati Bhavan. There are 36 new faces. And others are getting promotions according to The Hindustan Times.

Narendra Modi took the initiative to reshuffle the cabinet amid criticism over the role of the BJP-led government in tackling the second wave of corona. Earlier, 12 ministers from different ministries, including health and education, resigned over the reshuffle.

NDTV reports that Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP all-India president JP Nadda recently prepared an assessment report on the role of any member of the Union Cabinet in Corona. They also submitted the report to the Prime Minister's Office. In view of this, the cabinet was reshuffled on Wednesday (July 7).

Among the new ministers are four West Bengal MPs. They are Subhash Sarkar, Nishith Pramanik, John Barla and Shantanu Tagore.

Besides, other ministers, deputy ministers and state ministers who have been sworn in are- Narayan Rane, Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr. Birendra Kumar, Jayshree Dutt M Scindia, Ramchandra Prasad Singh, Ashwini Bishwanao, Pashupati Paras, Kiren Rijiju, Rajkumar Singh, Hardwip Singh Puri, Mansukh Mandavia, Bhupendra Yadav, Purushottam Rupala, G. Kishan Reddy, Aurang Sing Thakur, Pankaj Chowdhury, Anupriya Singh Patel, Dr. Satyapal Singh Bagal, Rajiv Chandra Shekhar, Shuvra Karandlaji, Vanu Pratap Singh Verma, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Meenakshi Likhi, Annapurna Devi, A. Narayan Swami, Kushal Kishore, Ajay Bhatt, b. L. Verma, Ajay Kumar, Chauhan Debusing, Kapil Mersawar Patil, Pratima Bhowmik, Dr. Subas Sarkar, Dr. Bhagwati juvenile imprisonment, said. Prince Ranjan Singh, Dr. Bharati Praveen Pabar, Bishwawar Tidu, Shantanu Tagore, Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai, Dr. L. Murugan.

BJP MP Nishith Pramanik has been sworn in from Kochbihar. Alipurduar MP John Barla has been sworn in. Shantanu Tagore, a BJP MP from Bangaon, was sworn in as the state minister.

BJP MP Rajkumar Ranjan Singh is from Manipur. Besides, BJP MP from West Tripura Pratima Bhowmik has taken oath. She got a seat in the Union Cabinet for the first time from Tripura.
