Curfew has been clamped in Kiev now. Sirens are occasionally sounding for fear of Russian airstrikes. People are being told to take shelter safely. Many are sitting in subway stations.
Thousands of people have been desperately trying to leave Kiev since morning.
The AFP news agency reported that the Russian-attacked airport was located next to Kiev's Antonov airport. The attack there means that Russian troops have reached the capital on the first day of the operation in Ukraine.
