Yemen's Houthi rebel group says US and British strikes have killed 17 of its fighters. This information was reported in the Houthi-controlled media after the funeral of the victims in Sana'a, the capital of the country.

International media Al Jazeera reported this information on Saturday (February 10).

The report said, "Funerals for those killed in the US-British bombing were held in the capital Sana. A Houthi state media reported that the names of the dead were being listed on Saturday.

The US and UK have been striking Houthi targets in Yemen since mid-January in an effort to stop Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

Iran-backed rebels, who control much of war-torn Yemen, including the port of Hodeidah, have been targeting ships linked to Israel in response to the Gaza war.

The United States said on Thursday that its military had conducted several operations against the missile launcher. The reason cited was that Houthi fighters were preparing to attack commercial shipping and US warships in the Red Sea.

A large number of supporters gathered at Al-Shabab Mosque, formerly Al-Saleh Mosque, in Sana'a on Saturday for the funeral of the Houthis killed in the attack.

Abu Mowataz Ghalib, one of the mourners, told AFP news agency that he and others present were firm on the Gaza war.

He said, “We convey our message through these martyrs that it is absolutely impossible for us to abandon our stand based on principles and beliefs and that has compelled us to take action.
