At least 19 Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli strike targeting civilians waiting for aid southeast of Gaza City. Another 23 civilians were injured in the incident.

The Ministry of Health of Gaza reported this information on Saturday (March 23).

In a statement, the Ministry of Health said thousands of citizens were waiting for flour and aid near the Al-Kuwait roundabout. Then the Israeli occupation carried out another massacre.

Israeli troops and tanks opened fire with machine guns at a site where starving people were waiting for flour and relief bags, the statement said.

Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesman for Gaza's civil defense department, said heavy fire was fired at civilians and the wounded were taken to the nearby Ahli Arab Hospital.

With Gaza's health care system nearly collapsing, many were being treated in the open air, he said.

A witness at the scene, Alaa al-Khudari, told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces opened fire on the crowd just as people crowded in for a handful of food, "killing many" and injuring many.
