34 Bangladeshis detained in Kelantan

74 illegal immigrants, including 34 Bangladeshis, were arrested in a joint operation by the Kelantan Immigration Department and the Roads and Township Department in Gua Musang, Kelantan, Malaysia.

The operation was conducted at the JPJ station in Gua Musang from 10:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (March 23).

Departmental Director of Immigration Mohammad Shamsuddin said that 34 Bangladeshis, 18 Myanmar nationals, 7 Indonesians, 7 Indians, 2 Filipinos and 1 Cambodian national were arrested in this five-and-a-half-hour operation.

In a press conference on Sunday morning, Shamsuddin said, "The age of those arrested in the raid is between 20 and 60 years." They were detained for various crimes including illegal stay, not having necessary documents, overstaying and entering Malaysia without permission.

Apart from this, a Proton Exora car was seized in the raid. At the same time, 4 Pakistani citizens were arrested, he said.

Shamsuddin also said, "Due to the ongoing operation, the movement of illegal immigrants has reduced and legal immigrants and locals are getting relief." 35 officials of the Immigration Department and 12 officials of the Roads and Township Department participated in the operation.
