Tulip Siddique, the daughter of Sheikh Rehana, the younger sister of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the granddaughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who won a large number of votes in the recently concluded general elections in the United Kingdom, has been appointed as the Minister of Cities of the United Kingdom.

Tulip, elected as a Labor MP for a fourth consecutive term, will oversee the financial services sector. Prior to this she was working as a shadow minister as a Labor Party MP.

Bloomberg reported this information in a report on Tuesday (July 9). It also said that the government has not made any official announcement regarding Tulip's appointment.

Tulip, 41, has worked in the City of London's financial district since 2021.

She will do more to make Britain's labor market more competitive and remove barriers, Tulip told the Financial Times in May this year.

Tulip will replace Bim Afolami as the Cities Minister. Beam is a former HSBC banker. He served under the previous Conservative government.

Tulip received a total of 23 thousand 432 votes in this election. Her closest rival Don Williams of the Conservatives got 8,462 votes. Compared to the 2019 elections, the number of votes of Tulips this year has increased by 10.7 percent.

Tulip first won the Hampstead-Kilburn seat in 2015. It was then that she entered the House of Commons for the first time. Then she won from the same seat in the 2017 and 2019 elections. That year, her name also appeared in the list of 1,000 most influential politicians in the United Kingdom.
