Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left the country after being ousted in a mass coup by students. Hasina has alleged that the US is behind her overthrow. However, the United States has completely rejected this allegation.

The country has even termed the allegations of US interference in Bangladesh as 'simply false'. Reuters reported this information in a report on Tuesday (August 13).

"We had no involvement at all," White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre told a press briefing when asked about the allegations of US involvement. Any reports or rumors that the United States government was involved in this incident are simply false.'

A report in India's Economic Times last Sunday quoted Hasina as saying that the United States had intervened to oust her because it wanted control of Bangladesh's St. Martin island in the Bay of Bengal. Hasina conveyed this message through her close aides, the newspaper said.

However, Hasina's son Sajib Wazed said in a post on social media platform X last Sunday that she (Hasina) never gave such a statement.

The White House also said on Monday, "We believe that the Bangladeshi people should determine the future of the government of Bangladesh and that is exactly our position."

It should be noted that 76-year-old Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign from the post of Prime Minister last Monday after more than 400 people were killed in protests over government job quotas for several weeks. After the Bangladesh Army gave her a 45-minute ultimatum, she fled Dhaka and went to India. An interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus was sworn in on Thursday to hold elections in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina fled.
