Nurse killed after rape in India, body found after 9 days

A nurse was raped and murdered on her way home from the hospital in Uttar Pradesh, India. Police recovered her body nine days later.

According to Indian media NDTV, this incident happened on Tuesday (July 30) in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district. An accused named Dharmendra Kumar has been arrested in this incident.

Accused Dharmendra Kumar is a resident of Bareilly and is a daily laborer. He is accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a nurse on her way home from the hospital.

According to the report, the victim nurse worked in a private hospital in Nainital. Dharmendra found her alone while returning home from the hospital on the day of the incident and started following him. He then forcibly dragged her behind a bush, raped her and later strangled her to death.

The nurse lived with her 11-year-old daughter in a rented house in Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh. The sister of the deceased nurse lodged a complaint with the local police station on Wednesday (July 31) after she did not return home the previous night.

On August 8, the Uttar Pradesh police found her body in an empty plot one and a half kilometers away from her home in Dibdiba village. An autopsy was conducted on the body and a team was formed by the police to trace the accused. At one stage, a person named Dharmendra was arrested after identifying the location of the stolen phone of the nurse. The arrested day laborer Dharmendra hails from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested from Rajasthan on Wednesday.

According to the police, Dharmendra was drunk at the time of the incident. After seeing that nurse, he started following her. Dharmendra attacked the nurse before entering the apartment of her house.

Udham Singh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC said Dharmendra dragged the nurse to a nearby bush. After the rape, the nurse was strangled to death with her veil.

Dharmendra also stole the phone in the nurse's bag and 3 thousand rupees in the bag, he said.
