India's Ministry of External Affairs has said that the current flood situation in the eastern border districts of Bangladesh has been created due to the opening of the Dambur Dam on the Gomti River in Tripura.

They gave this information through a statement on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country on Thursday (August 22).

The statement said, we are concerned about the current situation in Bangladesh. However, it is not true that the wildness in the eastern border districts due to the opening of the Dambur dam upstream of the Gomti river in Tripura is not correct.

The flood situation is caused by heavy rains in the catchment area of the Gomti River, which flows through India and Bangladesh.

The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also mentioned in the statement that the Dambur Dam is located more than 120 km from the border of Bangladesh. Within this 120 km we have three water level monitoring sites at Amarpur, Sonamura and Sonamura-II. And the height of this dam is only 30 meters which is a much lower height than other dams. Bangladesh also uses 40 MW of electricity generated from this dam, Delhi said.

They also said that they have sent flood information to Bangladesh from Amarpur monitoring station. At the same time, Delhi sought mutual cooperation to resolve the problems arising on the common river between India and Bangladesh and to reduce the amount of suffering of the people on both sides. India's Ministry of External Affairs has also said that it is committed to solving the problems and mutual concerns of water resources and river water management through bilateral discussions.
