Iran carried out more than a dozen missile attacks on US troops in Iraq. The attack took place on Tuesday night (Jan.7).

This is a clear revenge for the killing of Qassim Soleimani, one of Iran's most powerful generals, last week by a US drone strike.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said on Tuesday that Iran launched more than a dozen missiles aimed at US troops and coalition forces in Iraq.

"It is clear that the missiles were fired from Iran, and at least two Iraqi military bases were targeted in Al-Assad and Irbil, which are operated by US military and coalition members," he said. We are working to assess the initial casualties of the attack. '

"In addition to assessing our response to such situations, we will take all necessary measures to safeguard US workers, partners and allies in the region," Hoffman added.

The White House said it had already briefed US President Donald Trump on Iran's missile attack.

According to reports by the Iranian state TV channel, in response to the US drone strike last week in Soleimani’s assassination, Tehran launched a missile targeting Iraq's Ain Assad airport. Through this, Iran threatened retaliation. These attacks sparked tensions between both Washington and Tehran's promise of revenge.
