Terrorists kill 35 people in Burkina Faso

At least 35 people were killed in separate armed attacks on a cattle market and a convoy of motor vehicle in the African country of Burkina Faso.

A statement from the country's government said on Sunday (May 31).

On Saturday afternoon, gunmen on motorcycles randomly opened fire on a cattle market in a village west of Compienger in Burkina Faso. Twenty-five people died on the spot and many were injured. At the same time, five civilians and five military policemen were killed by gunmen in a village north of Faub. A convoy of vehicles returning from Foube was attacked after providing humanitarian assistance. 20 people were injured here.

However, no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier on Friday, at least 15 people were killed in a terrorist attack on a caravan of traders in a town north of Burkina Faso.

Saturday's violence marked a period of deep instability in various parts of Burkina Faso. The country has been fighting Al- Qaeda and ISI-linked armed groups since 2017.

At least 900 people had been killed in terrorist attacks in the country in the past five years. And more than 8.50 lakh people have been forced to flee their homes.
