World Health Organization (WHO) said that a mother infected with coronavirus can breastfeed her baby.

This was stated by WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Gebriusus on Friday (June 12) at a virtual press conference.

According to the Turkish daily Sabah, new mothers with corona should breastfeed their babies. And the child should not be separated from the mother.

We know that children are relatively less likely to be infected with the coronavirus, he said. In addition, mother's milk contains antibodies, which boost the baby's immune system and protect it from diarrhea, pneumonia and other infectious diseases. Scientists from the World Health Organization have also found that breastfed babies have a lower risk of corona disease.

He added that the World Health Organization's advice is to breastfeed the baby even if the new mother is infected with the coronavirus. This will make antibodies in the baby's body and increase immunity.

Anshu Banerjee, senior adviser on reproductive health and research at the World Health Organization said the virus had not been found in the breast milk of any mother with corona so far.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreiusus said mothers with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 should be encouraged to breastfeed their babies, and we should not isolate the baby unless the mother is very sick.
