Tedros Adhanam Gabriasus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said the lack of global leadership and unity in tackling the corona was a bigger threat than the pandemic.

He also said on Monday (June 22) that politicization of the pandemic had made it worse.

He did not elaborate but criticized some of the WHO member states particularly the United States. Because according to USA, the agency was very weak, slow and China-centric in disease control.

Others have called for a review of the pandemic and Australia urged to give the WHO more power to respond more quickly to the health crisis.

Speaking at a virtual health forum at the World Government Summit organized by Dubai, the WHO chief said the world needs national unity and global solidarity. The politicization of the pandemic has exacerbated it. The biggest threat we are facing now is not a virus, it is a lack of global solidarity and global leadership.

He said some parts of the international health policy need to be strengthened so that they are more appropriate as needed.

Noting that healthcare must be a priority for all countries, he said the world has learned through difficult realities that strong healthcare systems are the foundation of global health security and social and economic development.
