Police in North Macedonia have detained 64 Bangladeshi migrants from a truck.

They were found in their truck on a highway near the Greek border late Monday (June 23).

The Associated Press (AP) reported that the driver of the truck fled during a visit to Strumicha in southeastern Macedonia.

However, the country's police did not say anything about the detained migrants. The detained migrants have been transferred to the border town of Gevgelija. Preparations are being made to repatriate them.

The so-called migration route has been closed since 2015. Meanwhile, the border between Greece and North Macedonia has been closed since the beginning of this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But police said human trafficking networks are still active in the border area.
