5 officials of Jashore Juvenile Correction Center placed on remand

A court has granted remand of five officials, including the Superintendant of the Jashore Child Development Center, in a case of torturing three teenagers to death and injuring 15 others.

Judge Mahadi Hasan of the Jashore Judicial Magistrate Court granted them remand on Saturday (August 15) evening.

Their arrest was shown on Friday (August 14) night. Investigating officer of the case Rokibuzzaman, in-charge of Chanchra police outpost, applied for a seven-day remand of the arrested persons.

After the hearing, Jashore Child Development Center Superintendent (Assistant Director) Abdullah Al Masud, Assistant Superintendent Masum Billah, Physical Instructor Shahanur Psycho Social were placed on remand for five days and Counsellors Mushfiqur Rahman and Omar Farooq for three days.

Earlier, Roka Mia, father of deceased Parvez Hassan Rabbi of Maheshwar Pasha West Senpara in Daulatpur, Khulna, filed a case with Kotwali Police Station on Friday (August 14) evening. The Child Development Center authorities were accused in the case. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Welfare has suspended superintended of the center Abdullah Al Masud.

On August 3, a clash broke out between two groups of teenagers at the Jashore Child Development Center. Those involved in the incident were identified by watching CCTV footage. Then on Thursday (August 13) at noon, in the presence of the officers, Ansar members and some teenagers on their orders beat up at least 18 inmates. When they fell ill due to beatings and torture, they were left behind. Some thought they were unconscious because they were senseless but later realized they were dead. Then their bodies were taken to the hospital one by one in the evening.
