Police arrested the driver of the microbus involved in the death of female mountaineer Reshma Akhter Ratna, 32 after reviewing 382 CCTV footages.
Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tejgaon Division, said that the work was started from day one to identify the possible location of the black microbus. Initially, we were able to identify the route of the microbus sometime before and after the incident by collecting and reviewing 382 CCTV footages installed at different places of probable areas.
Collecting footages from all these CCTV cameras, some obscure digital number plate pictures of the black Hi ace model microbus was found. With some clarification of the numbers obtained, work was initially started on 112 microbuses. By forming 4 separate teams, we started the second phase of work by collecting the ownership, color and number of seats of these microbuses from different sources including BRTA.
The black 12-seat Hi ace microbus was seized from Ibrahimpur under Kafrul police station in the capital on Tuesday (August 18). The driver of the microbus Naeem,27 was arrested who was driving the microbus at the time of the accident. The owner of the microbus has rented the car to a private company on a monthly basis. It was initially learned that the incident took place while the officers and employees working in the night shift of the organization were being dropped off at different destinations on the day of the incident.
It is learned that the accused will be handed over to the court and will be sought remand remand for 5 days. The investigation of the case is ongoing and after the necessary activities, the charge sheet of the case will be submitted to the court.
Earlier on Friday (August 7), Reshma Akhter Ratna, 32, a female mountaineer and a teacher of Ayub Colony Government Primary School, was seriously injured in a road accident on Lake Road under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station at around 9 am. According to eyewitnesses, Ratna was hit by a black microbus while cycling on Lake Road and fell on the spot. Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police rushed her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
After the incident, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police identified the black microbus and launched an operation to arrest the accused driver. Later, the relative of the deceased Moniruzzaman came to the police station and filed a case.
