Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that by 2021, every house in Bangladesh will have electricity.

She said 24,000 MW of electricity will be generated by 2021. The use of electricity is increasing day by day. Due to digital Bangladesh, the use of electricity has also increased in the villages.

She was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 100 percent electrification of virtually 31 upazilas from Ganobhaban around 10:30 am on Thursday (August 27). The Prime Minister also inaugurated two power plants, 11 grid sub-stations and six new transmission lines.

She said that solar power is being provided in all the places where it is not possible to provide power lines. Arrangements have been made to ensure the use of solar, especially in char areas. So far 57 lakh solar panels have been provided, she said.

Regarding electricity subsidy, the Prime Minister said that subsidy is still being given due to high cost of power generation. Power generation is being supplied at a lower price than what it is. So I'm telling everyone to be economical in using electricity. The bill will also come down.

The Prime Minister said the villages will be transformed into cities. We are working to bring 100 per cent people under electricity by 2021, she said. It is planned to generate 60,000 MW of electricity by 2041. This initiative is part of the establishment of Digital Bangladesh. The village will be transformed into a city. Care is being taken to ensure that all facilities are available there.
