Government has decided to return to previous fare in public transport from September 1. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said this while exchanging views in a video conference with BRTA and BRTC officials of Dhaka Zone from his residence on Saturday (August 29) morning.

He said it has been decided to return to the previous fare in public transport from September 1, subject to conditions, in the public interest and considering the existing situation.

Obaidul Quader said that among the conditions, wearing of mask has been made compulsory in transport. Passengers cannot be taken standing in any way. Passengers have to travel in seats.

He directed the BRTA to take immediate action against the illegal vehicles as well as to announce the new decision in the form of a notification soon.

It is to be noted that limited public transport services were restored from June 1 due to Corona pandemic. To prevent corona infection, the government has directed the long-distance buses, minibuses and other modes of transport to carry less passengers in compliance with the health rules. At that time the bus fare was increased by 60 percent to compensate the owners.
