Accusing Ziaur Rahman as the initiator of the politics of enforced disappearance and murder, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ‘I saw the same character of Ziaur Rahman in Khaleda Zia. Ziaur Rahman gave indemnity to the killers of Bangabandhu and rewarded them. And when Khaleda Zia came to power in 2001, she rewarded those who killed people in the name of Operation ‘Clean Heart’ with indemnity. Zia, Zia's wife and his son all have blood stains on their hands, that's how they did politics.’
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Chhatra League on Monday (August 31) on the occasion of National Mourning Day. The Prime Minister joined the meeting through video conference from Ganobhaban. The meeting was chaired by Bangladesh Chhatra League President Al Nahyan Khan Joy and was attended by Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader. Also present were Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak and organizing secretary SM Kamal Hossain. Lekhak Bhattacharya, general secretary of Chhatra League, conducted the program.
The Prime Minister said, the question for those who talk about enforced disappearance-murder is who started this disappearance-murder? This is what Ziaur Rahman started. Army officers were on leave. They left the holiday and actually killed their family did not find the body. Ordinary soldiers were killed and their families did not find the bodies. They didn't even get a job. They lived inhuman life. In this way, the whole country has been bloodied just to perptuate the power. I see the same character in Khaleda Zia.
He said that Zia, Khaleda Zia and her son have done politics in this way. There was no education or initiation, only hooliganism and torture wanted to establish the politics of murder. Their deeds cannot be expressed in words. They have killed people by burning them to death.
The Prime Minister said, we wanted the country to move forward on the ideals of the Father of the Nation. That is why all our efforts. We did not go for revenge after coming to power. We have focused on the development of the country. I have looked at education initiation. When a country is run properly, respect comes back. That's what I showed.
We have brought to justice the murderers who killed the Father of the Nation in 1975, she said. We have ensured that justice is done in Bangladesh through the trial of the killers. Some of the accused are still at large, but have since been tried. Yes it is true that those involved in the conspiracy have not yet been found. But history will come out one day, this news will also come out, these will be found, it will come one day or another.
By killing the father of the nation, they thought it would erase the name, erase the history of our victory. The great sacrifice of millions of martyrs will erase that too. The killers wanted to destroy the ideology on which the country became independent.
