State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has directed to take practical steps to relocate 80 dockyards from the bank of the river Buriganga.
The directive was given by the state minister for shipping at a review meeting of BIWTA's administrative, financial and development activities at the ministry's conference room on Tuesday (September 1).
Meanwhile, the state minister directed the concerned officials to expedite the activities of Nawapara river port in Jashore. He said Nawapara river port is an important river port. He directed to carry out detailed survey activities as well as dredging of rivers adjacent to the port to make Nawapara port more usable.
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized on strengthening round-the-clock monitoring system in the implementation of project activities and said that projects that can be implemented in time should be taken up.
The meeting was attended among others by the Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury and BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq.
