Attack on Ghoraghat UNO: accused Asadul on 7 day remand

Rangpur: Asadul Haque, the main accused in the case filed in connection with the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Dinajpur Wahida Khanam and her father freedom fighter Omar Ali Sheikh, has been placed on police remand for seven days.


Dinajpur Senior Judicial Magistrate (Cognizance Court-6) Moniruzzaman Sarkar's court granted remand around 5pm on Sunday (September 6).


Earlier, Asadul was produced in the court and remand for 10 days was sought by the police. After the hearing, the court granted him a 7-day remand.


Dinajpur Detective Police OC Imam Zafar confirmed the matter, saying, we have applied for a 10-day remand to the judge for further interrogation. The learned judge granted a 7-day remand.


Meanwhile, RAB-13 handed over Asadul Haque, the main accused in the case to police station on Saturday evening. Later, Ghoraghat police handed over Asadul to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dinajpur police around 3:30 am on Saturday night.


Earlier Senior Magistrate Shishir Kumar Basu on Saturday granted seven-day remand of painter Nabirul Islam and Santu Kumar Roy, the other accused in the case. The remand of Nabirul and Santu Roy has started from Sunday morning.


It is to be mentioned that last Wednesday (September 2), miscreants entered the official residence of UNO and hit Wahida Khanam and her father with a hammer mercilessly. Law enforcement agencies have so far arrested the three in the incident.
