Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan has announced that direct rail link between Dhaka and Cox's Bazaar will be established in 2022.
He said the railway has two projects out of the 10 mega projects that are the priority of the Prime Minister. One is the construction of 102 km railway from Dohazari-Cox's Bazar-Ghumdhum, the other is the construction of 182 km railway from Kamalapur in Dhaka to Jashore via Padma Bridge.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting on land acquisition for the Dohazari-Cox's Bazar dual gauge railway construction project organized by the Cox's Bazaar district administration at the Hilltop Circuit House conference room on Friday (September 11) evening.
Nurul Islam Sujan said the project will be completed by June 2022. If the project is implemented on time, direct rail link between Dhaka and Cox's Bazaar will be possible by June 2022.
Cox's Bazar acting Deputy Commissioner chaired Ashraful Afsar the meeting while Dohazari-Cox's Bazaar railway construction project director Mofizur Rahman, Land Acquisition Officer Shamim Hossain and other concerned officials spoke.
Project and land acquisition officials, including senior railway officials, were present at the time.
