Cabinet Secretary Khondoker Anwarul Islam said the ministry would decide on the opening of educational institutions, not any central authority.

The approval was given at a virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (September 14). After the meeting, the cabinet secretary told reporters at the secretariat at noon.

He said the cabinet has approved the draft Local Government (City Corporation) Act, 2020 in principle. The election had to be held six months before expiry of the tenure. Then we have to wait a long time for the oath. If the law is passed, the election will be held 3 months before. The elected will take charge within 15 working days after taking oath. Representatives elected in city elections will get one month off instead of three months a year.

Cabinet Secretary Khondoker Anwarul Islam said, "It has been seen that in reality (according to the City Corporation Act) there are some difficulties in working. Now there is a rule, (before expiration) must be elected within 6 months (180 days). On the other hand, they (mayors and councilors) will have five years from the day they meet. It has been seen that if the election is held 4-5 months ago, even if they are sworn in, they cannot take responsibility for this contradiction. They have to wait a long time.”

"The election is over, they have to wait even after taking the oath," he said. That's why it has been brought with a little change. Elections must be completed within three months (before expiration). The responsibility will be handed over within 15 working days of the day the oath is taken.

The cabinet secretary said the cabinet has approved the draft of Bangladesh Biman Corporation Act in principle. The cabinet also approved the draft of drone registration and aviation policy. The use of drones for recreation (drones below 5 kg) and for state and military purposes is not required. However, for the use of any drone above 5 kg for commercial use, approval must be obtained from the Civil Aviation and KPI authorities.
