Dr. Bijan Sheel leaves Bangladesh

Internationally renowned scientist and head of the Corona Kit Invention team of the Gono Shastho Kendra(GSK) Bijan Shil left Dhaka on a flight to Singapore in the early hours of Sunday (September 20), said Jahangir Alam Mintu, a press adviser of GSK. The Bangladeshi-born scientist has acquired citizenship of Singapore.

Reportedly, due to visa complications Dr. Bijan Kumar Sheel has returned to Singapore.

Bijan Shel, who got Singapore citizenship, came to Bangladesh with a work permit. Dr. Bijan Kumar was teaching as the Head of the Department of Microbiology at Gono University. In the light of previous experience, he invented antigens and antibody kit when corona infection started here. However, the government did not approve it.

His work visa expired in last July. He then applied for a work visa but has not yet received a reply from the government. As a result, he was forced to leave the country.

Earlier, he came up with the idea of ​​inventing a vaccine against goat plague in 1999, dengue in 2002 and a rapid test kit for SARS virus in 2003. At the beginning of the current pandemic of coronavirus, when GSK announced the invention of the rapid kit, Dr. Sheel led the team.
