The party chief has given strict instructions to work for the AL nominated candidates in the ensuing local government elections. Awami League chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed local MPs to work for the AL nominated candidates in the Zilla Parishads, Upazila Parishads and Union Parishads polls.

Besides, the High Command has also given strict instructions that no party candidate should be fielded except those who have been given boat symbols. It has also been reported that those who will not work for the boat may have to be decided by the party.

The party may also take tough decisions on those who will work for the candidate of their choice by disobeying the decision of the Local Government Nomination Board. He may even be expelled from the party if certain allegations are proved.

A meeting of the Awami League's Local Government Representative Nomination Board was held at the Prime Minister's official residence Ganobhaban on Monday (September 21). The meeting was chaired by Bangladesh Awami League Local Government Representative Nomination Board President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Besides, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, advisory council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, presidium members Muhammad Farooq Khan, Dr. Abdur Razzak, Kazi Zafarullah, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Publicity Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were present.

Barta24.com spoke to a senior leader present at the meeting. He said, ‘Everyone has to work for the person who will be given the boat under the direction of the Awami League president. There is no candidate of choice here; everyone is a candidate of the party. So the team has to work for whomever it gives. If a Member of Parliament works for a candidate outside the boat symbol or if a leader of any party works, a tough decision may have to be taken under their supervision.’

The leader said the boat symbol candidate could not win even after having qualified leaders in many Union Parishads, Zilla Parishads and Upazilla Parishads as he did not work for the party candidates in the past. Therefore, strict instructions have been given to ensure that there are no rebel candidates in any constituency this time.

Bangladesh Awami League has finalized the list of party candidates for the elections of 3 expired Zilla Parishads, 9 Upazilla Parishads and 61 Union Parishads.
