Authority forms 3 member probe committee on Sylhet gang rape

College authorities have formed a three- member probe committee into the incident of gang-rape of a bride by keeping her husband captive in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet. Principal of the college, Professor Saleh Ahmed, has confirmed the formation of an inquiry committee.

On Saturday (September 26) afternoon, the Principal informed that the head of the investigation committee has been made the head of the mathematics department Professor Anwar Hossain Chowdhury. The other two members of the three-member committee are Associate Professor of Political Science Jiban Krishna (Hostel Super Srikanth Block) and another Hostel Super Jamal Uddin. The committee has been asked to submit a report within a week.

College Principal Saleh Ahmed added that recommendations would be sent to the National University authorities to take administrative action, including canceling the rapists' studentship.

On the other hand, Russell Mia, the gatekeeper of the main gate of the college and Sabuj Ahmed Ruhan, the watchman have been suspended for negligence in duties.

MC College Principal Prof Saleh Ahmed confirmed the information and said the decision was taken at a meeting of the college's academic council.

Earlier, the rape took place at the college dormitory around 9:30 pm on Friday (September 25). The accused rapists are involved in the politics of Chhatra League. The housewife went to MC College in the evening with her husband. At that time 5-6 BCL leaders and activists forcibly took them to the dormitory from the college campus. Keeping the husband captive, the culprits gang raped the girl. Police later rescued the girl and admitted her to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. A case has been registered in this regard.
