World tourism day, a part of the global program observed here on Sunday (Sept.27) in a befitting manner through holding multi-media presentation and discussion meeting to boost up tourism in the district.
The discussion meeting held in the conference room of DC, Faridpur was attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Atul Sarkar as the chief guest and chaired by ADC (Gen) Roksana Rahman. It was held observing health rules due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
The discussion started with the slogan 'Tourism and Rural Development'.
ADC Roksana Rahman presented a multimedia presentation highlighting various tourist spots in this district.
Speakers stressed the need for flourishment and patronization of tourists spots with necessary facilities so that those can attract foreign tourists helping to contribute in our GDP. They said that tourism is an industry as the present government has attached immense importance to create tourism as income generating sector so it needs special attention.
They urged upon the concerned government agencies to nourish and enrich the tourists spots with all facilities including communication system and also ensuring security.
Addressing the meeting DC Atul Sarkar said that he has found huge potentialities to build up this district as a tourist friendly district. With the existing heritage spots he also suggested to add few attractive proposed tourists destination. He particularized the proposed ‘Bangabandhu Observatory Tower in Bhanga upazilla where a Science City would be built. The site is located at the rare crossing of 91 degree meridian and vertical line. Atul Sarkar also proposed to build a multi-lateral tourist park on the vast Charland of Padma river near to Faridpur district town. He assured the audience to ensure necessary renovation of the historical spots and religious relics.
The discussion was addressed among others by CEO of Zilla Parishad Abdur Rashid, Addl. Police Super Zamal Pasha, Principal Mosharraf Ali, Principal Golam Mostofa, Principal Shila Rani Mondol, Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Prof. Rezvi Zaman, Sadar Upazilla chairman Abdur Razzaq Molla and Advocate Shipra Goshwami.
