From Barguna: District and Sessions Judges court of Barguna has ordered the execution of six people including Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddiqua Minni for killing Shahnawaz Rifat (Rifat Sharif) in Barguna. The court also acquitted the rest four accused in the case.
On Wednesday (September 30) Barguna District and Sessions Judge Asaduzzaman pronounced the verdict. Earlier at 1-15 PM the Barguna District and Sessions Judge Asaduzzaman started reading the verdict in the court. The eight adult accused in the case were taken to the courtroom at 12.50 pm.
Earlier, the accused were brought to the court in a prison van under tight security of RAB and police at 11:45 am.
The death receivers are Rakibul Hasan Rifat Faraji (24), Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon (22), Mohaiminul Islam Sifat (20), Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktak Hridoy (23), Md. Hasan (20) and wife of the deceased, Ayesha Siddique Minni (20). Among the accused Md. Mosu is fugitive. The verdict was pronounced in the presence of other accused besides Musa.
The other four accused in the case Rafiul Islam Rabbi (21), Md. Sagar (20), Md. Musa (23) and Kamrul Islam Simon (22) have been acquitted.
Nayan Bond, 25, the number one accused in the Rifat murder case, was killed in a gunfight and was dropped from the charge sheet. Among the accused, Rifat Faraji gave a confessional statement in court.
In the same incident, 14 juvenile accused are in juvenile correction center in Jashore. Their trial is going on in the juvenile court.
Barguna District and Sessions Judge Asaduzzaman on January last 1 had framed charges against 10 of the 24 accused in the charge sheet. Among them, all the convicts sentenced to death were directly involved in the murder and the other three were accused of being involved in conspiracy to murder and helping the accused to escape.
Police produced eight accused in the court in connection with the verdict announcement. Ayesha Siddiqua Minni, who was out on bail in the case, also appeared in the court with her father.
On September 1 last year, police filed two separate charge sheets against 24 people, including Rifat's wife Ayesha Siddique Minni, in the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in the Rifat Sharif murder case.
At around 10:15 am on June 26 last year, the killers in broad day light hacked Rifat Sharif in front of Barguna Government College and seriously injured him. He was admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on the same day and succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon. Rifat's father Dulal Sharif filed a murder case with Barguna Police Station naming 12, and 5-6 unknown as accused.
