Dhaka: An aviation agreement has been signed between Bangladesh and the United States. On Wednesday (September 30) Bangladesh Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Senior Secretary. Mahibul Haque and the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R. Miller signed the agreement on behalf of their respective countries.

According to a press release issued by the US Embassy in Dhaka, this is the first bilateral air transport agreement signed between the two countries. Under these agreement modern aviation relations has been established with Bangladesh in line with the US Open Sky International Aviation Policy. The agreement covers the opening of passenger and freight carriers and the number of movements, the opening up of airspace access, the simplification of airfare procedures, and the sharing of aircraft codes. The agreement came into force after the signing.

This agreement will further expand the strong economic and trade partnership with Bangladesh in support of the US Indo-Pacific Strategy, the statement said. The development of people-to-people contacts between the two countries will create new opportunities for airlines, travel companies and buyers. Airlines will be able to provide more affordable, convenient and efficient air transport services to travelers and freighters. As a result, tourism and trade will be encouraged. Under the agreement, the two governments are committed to ensuring a high level of safety and security in aviation. Facilitating civil aviation in the Indo-Pacific region will go one step further.
