Two to die for killing ex-principal of Eden College

Dhaka: A court has sentenced two domestic helps to death in the murder case of Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin, former principal of Eden College, by pressing the pillow in her mouth.
 
The convicted are domestic worker Rita Akter alias Swapna and Ruma alias Reshma. On Sunday (October 4), Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Abu Zafar Md. Kamaruzzaman gave this verdict.
 
Before the verdict was announced, 27 of the 34 witnesses in the chargesheet were to testified.On July 21 last year, Sub- Inspector of Newmarket Police Station, Alamgir Hossain Majumdar, filed chargesheet in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka, accusing two domestic workers of the penal code 419, 381, 302, 34, 411.
 
The chargesheet said that Ruma and Rita worked at Mahfouza's house,  killed the ex- principal. After the murder, they fled away with gold, cash money and a smart phone.
 
After the murder, Rita fled to her village home, Netrakona. Rita hid in sayedabad area of Dhaka. They also took pictures of the slain Mahfouza on their mobile phones after the killing. 
 
Policeused high technology to arrest the killers.
 
Later on they gave confessional statements court and give confessions in the court.
 
Mahfouza lived in the 16/C number flat of the Sukannya Tower on Elephant Road. She was the Principal of Eden Women's College from 2009 to 2012. Her husband Ismat Kadir Gama, a prominent Awami League leader was not in his flat when the incident took place. Mahfouza Chowdhury was killed in her home on Elephant Road on 10 February 2019.
