Dhaka: The police are working with utmost importance and sincerity in the investigation of every case filed in the case of rape and violence against women.
This was stated in a message sent to the media on Saturday (October 10) signed by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sohail Rana.
Sohail Rana, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Police Headquarters, said that in the wake of several heinous crimes of rape and violence against women in recent times, there has been a lot of reaction among the youth and through social media. The overall ongoing issue has caught the attention of the police headquarters.
Bangladesh Police is working with utmost professionalism, dedication and sincerity in every case of violence against women and children including rape to ensure social order and peace in the country. Similarly, the police are carrying out investigation of each case with utmost importance and sincerity while maintaining the highest standards. The investigation of these cases will be completed as soon as possible and reports will be submitted to the court. We firmly believe that the appropriate punishment for all criminals will be ensured in the shortest possible time through the courts.
According to the police headquarters, the government is taking immediate steps to amend the law to provide death penalty for rape as per the wishes of the people. In keeping with the expectations of the people, the government also expects the perpetrators be punished as soon as possible. The matter is being monitored round the clock from the highest levels of the state.
It was further stated that despite the highest goodwill of the government and the state, a vested interest group is keen to divert the issue. They are trying to satisfy the vested interests of the group by destabilizing the law and order situation by creating social chaos diverting the expectations of the people. Therefore, in the interest of peace and order in the country, all concerned have been requested to carefully refrain from any anti-state activities. It was also informed that the police are determined to ensure internal peace and order in the interest of the country and the people at any cost.
