Attack on army patrol boat in Rangamati: two terrorist killed

A member of Armed Forces named Shahabuddin (28) was injured in an armed attack on an army patrol boat at Naniyarchar in Rangamati. But two terrorists were killed in the counter-attack by the army. 

Security sources confirmed that the incident took place at 5 pm on Tuesday (October 13) at Rauf Tila in Kharikshan area of Upazilla Sadar.

The dead were both activists of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), an organization opposed to the Hill Tracts Agreement. A sophisticated AK-22 SMG was recovered from the spot, security sources said.

Rangamati Superintendent of Police Alamgir Kabir confirmed that two terrorists were killed. One of the dead was identified as Rocket Chakma, but police could not confirm the name of the other. Security forces are conducting a search operation in the area.

The injured soldier was brought to Ruma CMH in Rangamati soon after the attack. He was airlifted to Chittagong CMH in the evening for advanced treatment. At present he is safe.

According to security sources, an army team led by a Major went on a special operation in a speedboat at Rauf premises in the afternoon.

At around 5 pm, a group of armed terrorists in another speedboat came from the opposite direction and started firing at the army patrol boat before realizing anything. At that time, an army member in the boat was shot in the left side of the chest when the bullet pierced through the armpits. Two of the attackers were later killed when the army returned fire.
