Prisoner escape: 41 officials including 6 ACs of RMP tranferred

A total of 41 cops including 6 Assistant Commissioners (AC) have been transferred in connection with the escape of a drug accused from the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police's (RMP) Detective Branch (DB) custody.

They were transferred by an office order signed by RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique on Tuesday (October 13) afternoon.

According to RMP sources, one of the accused, who was arrested with heroin, escaped by bending the jail rod of the DB office in Laxmipur area of the metropolis on Monday (October 12) evening. After the incident, the Commissioner of Police visited the DB office. At this time he immediately withdrew the duty officer and one sentry. The fugitive could not be caught until Tuesday (October 13). In the meantime, RMP Commissioner ordered the transfer of 36 people from the DB office.

Apart from DB Police AC Habibur Rahman, 5 Sub-Inspectors (SIs), 8 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) and 26 Constables have been transferred. Meanwhile, in addition to the 38 DB members, AC Sonia Parveen of RMP's Crime Unit, AC Uday Kumar Saha of Logistics Department and AC Rakibul Islam of Rajpara Zone have been transferred.

RMP spokesperson Golam Ruhul Quddus said that after joining, Commissioner of Police Abu Kalam Siddique expressed his determination to make RMP a dynamic and up-to-date effective unit by making radical changes in every department. As part of that activity, four ACs have been reshuffled.

In addition, 38 people have been transferred simultaneously, including the AC, in order to make the intelligence department dynamic and effective, the RMP spokesperson added.
