A Dhaka court accepts case under DSA against Nur

A Dhaka court has taken cognizance of the case against former VP of DUCSU Nurul Haque Nur under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for making defamatory remarks about the plaintiff in the rape case on Facebook Live. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been directed to investigate the case and submit an investigation report on November 29.

Judge As Sam Jaglul Hossain of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Wednesday (October 14) at noon directed the PBI to investigate the case and submit a report on November 29.

The matter was confirmed by the tribunal's bench clerk Shamim Al Mamun.

On the night of September 20, the Dhaka University student filed a case against Nurul Haque Nur at the Lalbagh Police Station alleging complicity in the rape. Six people including Nur were accused in the case. Later, the student filed another case against Nur and six others under the Prevention of Repression against Women and Children Act and the Digital Security Act at Dhaka's Kotwali Police Station on charges of abduction, rape and character assassination through social media.

The main accused in the case is Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh Student Rights Council. Apart from Nur and Mamun, the other accused in the case are- Nazmul Hasan Sohag, joint convener of Bangladesh Student Rights Council, (2) Md. Saiful Islam, Vice President of the Student Rights Council. Nazmul Huda and DU student Abdullah Heel Baki.

After filing the case, the police arrested Nur around 6:30 pm on September 21. He was arrested on charges of rape as well as assault on police. He was then taken to the DB office. He was released at 12:35 pm after treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Then on October 8, the DU student went on a hunger strike in front of the anti-terrorism Raju sculpture at Dhaka University demanding the arrest of Nurul Haque Nur and his associates.

This time, the student only filed a case against Nur under the Digital Security Act. Recently, VP Nur came live on Facebook. He said various things live on Facebook about the student who was charged with rape. The student filed the case under sections 25 (1) / a, 29 (1) and 31 (2) of the Digital Security Act at the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal on Wednesday.
