All homeless families to get homes in Mujib year

The government is doing its utmost to ensure housing for all landless and homeless families within the Mujib year. The government has decided to ensure the selection of beneficiaries and the quality of the house and to implement the program on time. Necessary instructions have also been conveyed to the field administration as per the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

A meeting was held on Monday (October 19) at the Prime Minister's Office(PMO) with senior officials concerned.

In the meeting, the Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister Dr. Ahemd Kaikaus said in a video conference, besides allocating work and determining the tasks to ensure quality houses for everyone. On the occasion of the birth centenary of Mujib, the Principal Secretary conveyed the instructions of the Prime Minister to all the Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners and the people's representatives for the smooth implementation of the beneficiary selections and housing works for the rehabilitation of all landless and homeless families in the country.

Asrayan-2 project director (Additional Secretary) Mahbub Hossain told the media that our team is working hard to implement all the instructions given by the Prime Minister to ensure quality houses for all within the stipulated time (Mujib Year). Necessary instructions have also been conveyed to the field administration and people's representatives in this regard.

He also said that all landless and homeless families have already been listed with the aim of implementing the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that "not a single person in Bangladesh will remain homeless".
Mahbub Hossain said that the total number of 'A' class i.e. landless and homeless families (till June 2020) is 2 lakh 93 thousand 361 and 'B' class i.e. those who have 1-10 decimal land have no house / very dilapidated house So far, there are a total of 5 lakh 92 thousand 261 families. The total number of families in the two categories 'A' and 'B' is 6 lakh 75 thousand 622.

It was informed in the meeting on Monday that on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the first phase of "A" class, i.e. landless and homeless family’s rehabilitation activities have been started. In the first phase, houses will be constructed by providing 2% khas land to the landless and homeless families in category 'A'. The construction cost of each semi-pucca house with two rooms has been estimated at Tk. 1 lakh 61 thousand. All the houses will be constructed in the same design prescribed by the government. These houses will have kitchen, attached toilet and other facilities including utility space.

He also said that for the smooth implementation of these activities by ensuring fast and quality standards, work has been allocated on the basis of agencies and departments. Mahbub Hossain, Project director of the Asrayan-2 project of the Prime Minister's Office will provide houses to 24,536 families at a cost of Taka 419.70 crore in Dhaka, Rangpur and Barisal divisions.

Under the disaster management program of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief in Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna divisions, houses will be constructed for 20,373 families at a cost of Tk. 348.36 crore.

In Chittagong and Mymensingh divisions, houses will be constructed for 14,692 families at a cost of Tk. 254.75 crore under the Guchhgram-II Phase (CVRP) project of the Ministry of Land.

In the first phase, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister stressed for the smooth execution of 59 thousand 603 housing activities at a cost of 1 thousand 22 crore 72 lakh. The meeting was held in a video conference chaired by Dr. Ahmed Kaikaus.

The meeting was attended among others by, at the end of the Prime Minister's Office, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Tofazzal Hossain Mia, Secretary of the Ministry of Land. Maksudur Rahman Patwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Mohsin, Guchhgram-2nd phase (CVRP) project director Mr. Dr. AKM Ayali Ullah and Asrayan-2 project director Mr. Mahbub Hossain and project officials. From the Deputy Commissioner's side, the Deputy Commissioner, the Upazilla Nirbahi Officer, the Chairman of the Upazilla Parishad and the members of the District Monitoring Committee were attached to the Prime Minister's Office.
