Irfan, son of Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim, and his bodyguard Mohammad Zahid have been sentenced to one year in prison by a RAB mobile court for possession of illegal weapons and drugs.
On Monday (October 26), RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam's mobile court handed down the sentence.
Irfan Selim was sentenced to six months totaling 1 year imprisonment in two cases and his bodyguard Zahidul Islam was also sentenced to 6 months totaling 1 year imprisonment in similar two cases.
Earlier, RAB raided the house of DSCC Councilor Irfan Selim and recovered foreign liquor and beer illegally stored there. Thirty-five walkie-talkies, electronic devices without BTRC approval and a pistol were also recovered from his bedroom.
It may be mentioned that on Sunday (October 25) evening, Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan, a naval officer, was beaten after getting out of Haji Selim's car near Dhanmondi Kalabagan Crossing. The next day on Monday, Wasif filed a case with Dhanmondi police station against Haji Selim's son Irfan Selim, protocol officer AB Siddique Dipu, Mohammad Zahid and Mizanur Rahman.
