Rab files four cases against Irafan Selim

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has filed two cases against Ward Councilor Irfan Selim, son of Haji Selim MP (Dhaka-7) for possessing drugs, weapons and illegal walkie-talkies. Irfan Selim's associate M. Zahid has also been charged in two separate cases.

Lt. Col. Ashiq Billah, director of RAB's law and media section, confirmed the information on Tuesday (October 27) night.

He said that after the arrest of Councilor Irfan Mohammad Selim and his bodyguard Md. Zahid last night, four separate cases have been registered against the two today. All the cases have been under the Arms and Drugs Act. RAB has filed the cases with the Chawkbazar police station.

It may be mentioned that on Sunday night (October 25), Wasif Ahmed Khan, a Naval Officer, was beaten after getting out of the vehicle owned by Haji Mohammad Selim MP of Dhaka-7 constituency. Although a GD was filed on the incident at night, Wasif filed a case against seven people including Haji Selim's son on Monday morning.

According to the case statement, after Irfan's car hit the motor bike of Wasim, he stopped it on the side of the road and stood in front of the car. Naval Officer Wasim Introduced himself. Then the accused from the car kept saying together, I am taking out your navy / army, I am taking out your lieutenant / captain. I will kill you now. He then went out and beat Wasim mercilessly and abused his wife in obscene language. They beat Wasim and left him in a bloody state. His wife, locals and a Dhanmondi traffic police officer on duty rescued him and took him to Anwar Khan Modern Hospital.

After this incident, RAB raided the house of Councilor Irfan Selim on Monday. Yaba, weapons and illegal walkie-talkies were recovered from there. Later, RAB executive magistrate Sarwar Alam sentenced Irfan Selim to one year in jail for drug abuse and six months for using walkie- talkies illegally. Irfan's bodyguard Zahidul Islam was also sentenced to one year in prison. RAB sent Irfan Selim to jail on Monday night.

Meanwhile, police have applied for a seven-day remand for Irfan in a case of attempted murder filed by a Naval Officer Wasim Khan. A hearing will be held on Wednesday (today).
