GK Shamim’s bail: ACC summons Dy. Attorney General

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Deputy Attorney General Jannatul Ferdous Rupa for questioning on charges of helping various accused to get bail, including Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim, a prominent contractor arrested in connection with casino scandals and tender manipulation.

A notice signed by ACC Deputy Director (Special Investigation and Investigation-II) Mohammad Ibrahim on Wednesday (October 28) asked him to appear with a copy of his NID and passport on the morning of November 4.

According to the ACC notice, Deputy Attorney General Jannatul Ferdous Rupa has been charged with various irregularities, corruption, abuse of power and bribery in helping to bail out a number of accused including GK Shamim. The notice has been issued to hear his statement in the interest of proper investigation.
The notice, addressed to Jannatul Ferdousi Rupa, said, "In the interest of a fair investigation, your statement on the allegations needs to be heard and accepted." For this, a request has been made to appear at the office of the undersigned along with records / papers on November 4 at 10 am. If you fail to appear on the scheduled date and time, you will be deemed to have no say in the matter.'

Incidentally, RAB arrested contractor GK Shamim on September 18 last year, two days after the start of the anti-casino drive in Dhaka. On September 20 of that year, a huge quantity of drugs and money was recovered from his own office at Niketan in the capital. There is also a case against GK Shamim who was expelled from Juba League on corruption charges. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against him on October 21 last year.
